A Plea for Intimacy and Guidance

A Plea for Intimacy and Guidance

Psalms 143:10  You are my God; teach me to do your will. Be good to me, and guide me on a safe path.

During a recent Community Fast and Bible Study hosted by Fade2Bold, a friend shared this scripture that deeply resonated with me. The verse stood out because of its intentional structure, guiding us into a deeper relationship with God.

First, the scripture begins by establishing the identity of God: “You are my God." This statement is not just a declaration of faith but a personalization of the relationship. The use of my signifies ownership, intimacy, and acknowledgment of God’s place in our lives. It reminds us that to experience true intimacy with God, we must first take possession of the relationship. It’s not enough to know about God or acknowledge Him from a distance—He must become our God.

The second part of the verse reveals a posture of humility and willingness to learn: "Teach me to do your will." This is the heart of a student, one who desires not just knowledge but alignment with God's will. It’s easy to seek guidance for our own plans, but this plea is specific—teach me to do *Your* will, God. This request reflects a desire for purpose and submission, ensuring our paths align with His divine plan, not just our preferences.

Finally, the scripture closes with a plea for God’s goodness and protection: "Be good to me, and guide me on a safe path." This reflects a deep trust in God’s character—that He is good and desires our safety and well-being. The prayer is not just for direction but for God’s goodness to saturate the journey. It emphasizes the importance of trusting God to lead us securely, knowing that His guidance ensures stability and peace.

In essence, this verse calls us to personalize our relationship with God, adopt a learner’s heart, and trust His goodness and guidance. As we reflect on this, we must ask ourselves: Have we truly made God our God, and are we ready to be led by Him?

Reflection Questions:

1. Personalization: In what ways have you made your relationship with God personal, and how might you deepen that intimacy?

2. Submission: Are there areas in your life where you struggle to align with God’s will? How can you posture yourself as a student to learn and follow His desires?

3. Trust: What does it mean to you to walk a “safe path” under God’s guidance? How can you trust His goodness in your current journey?

When we fail to personalize our possession of the relationship with God, it weakens our posture and diminishes the depth of the position and path we are meant to take dominion over.
