From Barriers to Bridges: Transforming Your Goals Through Belief
As we reflect on the first quarter's end, our relationship with our goals can vary widely. Some of us are celebrating our achievements, while others might feel overwhelmed by the distance yet to travel. Trust me—I understand both perspectives from personal experience matter where you stand—whether you need to reignite your enthusiasm for current goals or are considering a new direction—I believe in moving from inspiration to action. That's why I've included a practical exercise at the end of this post to help you transform these insights into concrete steps forward and for those who want to explore their journey more deeply, I'm here to help. Let's schedule a one-on-one consultation to map out your path to success together.
Last year, I had a goal in my coaching practice that I didn’t reach. I became frustrated with the fact that this goal wasn’t reached. Life had its own set of challenges and those challenges hindered the progress I could have made toward that goal. But as I sat back and reflected, I realized it wasn’t just about achieving the goal—it was about the belief that I could accomplish the goal. Here's a clearer way to express that thought. I wondered if God could work through me and my abilities to make a meaningful difference in people's lives.
Sometimes, it’s not that we lack the qualifications or the experience. The real barrier is our belief. Our beliefs either hold us back or propel us forward. They make us second-guess ourselves or keep us from taking bold steps toward our purpose.
During my times of reflection, including moments when I felt frustrated, I came to understand something important: my belief didn’t match my goals and the abilities God had given me. I discovered that God wasn't holding me back; rather, He was helping me let go of limiting beliefs that were keeping me from moving forward on His intended path.
Now, here's the truth: your belief will either be a bridge or a barrier to where you want to go. If your belief is a bridge, it will help you and others move toward something new—unlocking freedom and new opportunities. But if your belief is a barrier, it will make things harder, not just for you, but for others who may be walking with you. My goals weren’t wrong in themselves, but I struggled because I wasn’t clear on which bridge my belief was leading me to. When I got clear, my impact increased—not just in my coaching practice, but in my career as well.
Your beliefs can either serve as bridges to new opportunities or barriers that hold you back—not just for you, but for everyone connected to your journey. I learned this firsthand when I struggled with my own goals, not because they were wrong, but because I wasn't clear which bridges my beliefs were building.
Once I gained clarity, my impact expanded naturally across both my coaching practice and career. I found myself having meaningful conversations where people felt safe sharing their deepest thoughts, often beyond just work matters. This was God's way of utilizing my gift to create space for others to reflect and grow.
What I initially saw as a challenge—building bridges in both my corporate role and my coaching practice with Kingsskid—turned out to be God's wisdom in action. He knew exactly how much I could handle and guided me accordingly. While my corporate coaching path developed quickly, my private practice grew more gradually. This slower pace, though different from my expectations, proved to be exactly what I needed.
Through my reflection with God, I've discovered that while factors like heart posture and comparison play a role, the foundation of achieving our goals lies in our core beliefs—both in God and in ourselves.
So, I leave you with this: Are your beliefs building bridges or barriers in your life? It’s time to flip the script. Take a step toward building bridges that will lead you to the fulfillment of your purpose and the legacy God has called you to create.
Bridge-Building Writing Activity: "Bridges Over Barriers"
Objective: Encourage participants to reflect on their belief systems and how they impact their relationships, purpose, and legacy. Through this activity, participants will identify areas where their beliefs may be creating barriers and reframe them into bridge-building opportunities.
Instructions:
Set the Scene : Begin by reflecting on the following question:
Are your beliefs building bridges or barriers in your life?Think about areas like your relationships, career, faith, and personal growth. Jot down a few beliefs that come to mind—both those that serve as bridges and those that might act as barriers.
Flip the Script: Choose one belief that has been a barrier for you. Write a short paragraph describing:
What this belief is.
How it has limited your ability to connect with others, grow, or walk in your purpose.
Why you think this belief exists (fear, past experiences, cultural expectations, etc.).
Bridge-Building Plan : Reframe the barrier into a bridge by answering these prompts:
How can I change my perspective on this belief?
What truth from God’s Word can replace this limiting belief?
What action step can I take today to start building a bridge in this area?
Example:
Barrier Belief: "I’m not good enough to lead."
Bridge Belief: "God equips those He calls, and I am fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14)."
Action Step: "I will take a small leadership role in my church or community to practice stepping into my calling."Commit to the Legacy:
Write a declaration statement beginning with:
"From this day forward, I commit to building bridges by..."
Finish the sentence with specific actions or mindsets that align with God’s purpose for your life.
Reflection & Sharing (Optional):
Share your reframed belief and action step with a trusted friend, mentor, or small group for accountability.
Close with prayer, asking God to reveal areas where barriers still exist and give you the strength to build bridges in their place.
If you're ready to break free from limiting beliefs and start building your bridges, I’m here to coach you through it. Let’s work together to reframe your mindset, renew your passion, and create a path forward. Reach out today, and let’s make this year one of breakthroughs, bravery, and brilliance!
