You're Defining; God Is Refining

We often struggle in life because we are trying to define when God is refining.

Refine: To reduce to a fine, unmixed, or pure state; to free from impurities; to free from dross or alloy; to separate from extraneous matter; to purify

Define: To determine or identify the essential qualities or meaning of whatever defines us as humans.

I remember the struggle; I wanted to achieve specific goals by a particular age, and I had a wish list of how I wanted my life to be. The struggle was between what I desired and what God had already determined. When I stopped fighting and started believing, the battle was over, and my walk with God became much more serene.

We go, create and seek all the things of the world to provide us insight, clarity, purpose, and meaning. When God has defined who we are, he has already identified the work we should do; his process is to refine us to be more like him.

We have so many things seeking to define us:

  • jobs

  • family

  • friends

  • world

  • and the list goes on

When I stopped trying to define myself and accepted the fact that God had already given me an identity

When I stopped trying to define my purpose and accepted that he plans to give me hope and a new future

When I stopped trying to define the routes I should take and trusted that God's refining process was for my good. I was able to experience Gid and his promised for me without competing, comparing or comprising who God called and equipped me to be.

We must believe in the refining process and trust that we find everything we need and desire in God.

Scripture:

New Living Translation

Proverbs 16:9 We can make our plans, but the LORD determines our steps.
